How to Brush Your Teeth Properly
ADA guidance provides a simple baseline: brush twice a day for two minutes using fluoride toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush.
Basic technique
For a conventional toothbrush, the ADA suggests placing the brush at about a 45-degree angle to the gumline and using gentle short strokes. Clean outer, inner and chewing surfaces.
Don’t forget between teeth
Toothbrushing does not fully replace interdental cleaning. ADA home-care guidance recommends cleaning between teeth daily using an approach that fits your needs.
Choose tools you can use consistently
Manual and powered toothbrushes can both work. Specialized designs may help some people with handling or positioning, but the right choice depends on the individual.
